Each year the Jacksonville Jazz Festival organizers unveil a commemorative poster to publicize the musical event. The 2014 poster, titled The Brilliance of Jazz, was created by Clearwater artist Michael O’Connell. You can see it on the festival website. But what did last year’s poster look like? What did the earlier posters look like?Jazz Posters Display 2

To help you look back over the history of the festival, Jacksonville Public Library has organized its own stroll down memory lane on the fourth floor of the Main Library. As you walk around the railing surrounding the open stairway, you will find many of the prior year posters, including the 1983 poster, one of the earliest.

JPL librarians have also gathered some jazz CDs and books on some of the all-time jazz greats, including Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington and more. So stop by the Main Library, bring back some memories with the Jacksonville Jazz Festival posters and checkout a book on a favorite musician or a CD to get in the mood for the 2014 event, which runs May 22-25.
