“The movie is never as good as the book.”
“I can’t help but see Clark Gable as Rhett Butler.”
It’s always tricky when two art forms interpret the same story. People compare. Tricky but kind of fun, too. For August, we’ll explore the world of “Blicks.” Blicks are books that are movies—“flicks”—and movies that are books. Books + Flicks = Blicks!
Select a title. Read, then watch; or watch, then read. Which form did you prefer and why? Let us know about your Blick experience.
- Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
- Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
- Strangers on a Train by Patricia Highsmith
- A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving (Simon Birch film)
- The Godfather by Mario Puzo
Here’s how the book club works:
The Jacksonville Public Library and WJCT launched the First Coast Connect Book Club for library and literature lovers. WJCT’s First Coast Connect book blogger Stacey Goldring discusses engaging books and invites you to join in the conversation, discuss your opinions, and add ideas to the literary discussion.
Each month a specific book or a selection of books will be chosen to be discussed. Check out the book(s) at any Jacksonville Public Library, or purchase the books at The Book Nook or Chamblin’s. Mention you’re with the First Coast Connect Book Club and get a discount.
After you’ve read the book, or books from the suggested book list, tell us what you think at firstname.lastname@example.org. Share any questions, emotions, memories or ideas that your reading triggered. Stacey and host Melissa Ross will discuss the book(s) and share your comments on First Coast Connect or tune in at 9 a.m. on August 18 to 89.9.FM WJCT’s First Coast Connect and call 549-2937.
First Coast Connect airs every weekday at 9 a.m. on 89.9 WJCT-FM. You can also download the First Coast Connect Podcast and listen anytime!
